Lürssen’s Fine Art Book: A 150-Year Legacy in Motion
In a world where craftsmanship defines legacy, Lürssen stands as one of the rare few whose name evokes both heritage and innovation. Celebrating its 150th anniversary, the German shipyard has unveiled the Lürssen Fine Art Book—a collector’s edition that immortalizes some of the most remarkable luxury yachts ever built.
Though Lürssen’s yachting division was established only in 1988, it has since shaped the superyacht landscape, delivering some of the most visionary vessels in existence. From Rising Sun to Kismet, Ahpo, and Pelorus, this new art volume offers unprecedented access into the elusive world of the shipyard’s private masterpieces.
A Visual Journey Through 36 Floating Icons
At 304 pages, the Lürssen Fine Art Book is both a visual chronicle and a testament to human ambition at sea. Featuring 36 yachts, with 12 oversized gatefold spreads, it opens like a gallery of engineering poetry—each turn of the page revealing another rare perspective on vessels few have ever stepped aboard.
“It’s rare that we’re allowed to photograph our yachts,” says Sylke auf dem Graben, from Lürssen’s marketing team. “This book is a tribute to their owners’ trust and to our legacy of discretion.”
The project’s creative vision belongs to Jarmo Pohjaniemi, a renowned fashion photographer whose portfolio includes work for Playboy. His background in capturing form and allure translates seamlessly to the marine world. “Superyachts, like models, have curves, posture, and soul,” Pohjaniemi explains. Over ten months, he traveled from the French Riviera to Thailand and the Seychelles, capturing moments like synchronized swimmers aboard Flying Fox and a storm gathering over Pelorus.
Beyond Photography: A Legacy in Words
Complementing Pohjaniemi’s imagery, journalist Rachel Ingram—a contributor to Forbes, Robb Report, and The Telegraph—weaves the brand’s 150-year history through stories of craftsmanship, generational leadership, and innovation. Founded in 1875, Lürssen began as a family shipbuilder and evolved, through four generations, into a global icon synonymous with bespoke yacht artistry.
Ingram’s narrative celebrates not just the grandeur of Lürssen’s creations but the continuity of vision that defines the yard—still privately held, still guided by the same family that began its journey more than a century and a half ago.
The Art of Scale and the Soul of Detail
If each yacht featured in the Lürssen Fine Art Book were placed bow to stern, they would span nearly three kilometers—a distance equivalent to the stretch between Monaco and Roquebrune-Cap-Martin or nearly the width of Manhattan.
It’s a scale that mirrors Lürssen’s presence in the industry: immense, enduring, and unmatched. Yet behind each vessel’s grandeur lies the same quiet artistry that defines true luxury—handcrafted details, fluid silhouettes, and an enduring respect for the sea.
For collectors, the limited-edition book, priced at £250 (approximately $328), is more than a publication—it’s an heirloom. A tangible piece of yachting history, created by one of the world’s most revered shipyards.
The Essence of Legacy for The 1%
To own a Lürssen is to possess more than a luxury yacht; it is to hold a vision shaped by generations of innovation and artistry. The Lürssen Fine Art Book distills that essence—150 years of passion, precision, and power—into an object worthy of the tables it will grace.
For the 1%, it is a reminder that true legacy is not built in years, but in the beauty left behind.
