Mohammed AlDuraibi: Redefining Luxury Through Culture, Hospitality, and Purpose
An Exclusive Conversation with The One Percent
Saudi Arabia is experiencing one of the most significant luxury, hospitality, and real estate transformations in the world. At the center of this evolution are leaders helping shape not only destinations, but entirely new lifestyles and experiences.

One such leader is Arch. Mohammed K. AlDuraibi, Founding Partner and Managing Director of OUD Real Estate. With a career spanning architecture, project management, hospitality, development, and investment, he has played a pivotal role in advancing some of Saudi Arabia’s most ambitious initiatives, including serving as Founding CEO of Boutique Group, a Public Investment Fund company dedicated to transforming historic palaces into ultra-luxury hospitality destinations.

The Interview
The One Percent:
OUD has quickly established a distinctive identity within the Saudi luxury and hospitality landscape. What was the original vision behind the brand?
Mohammed AlDuraibi:
From the very beginning, OUD was envisioned as more than a real estate developer. The ambition was to create destinations that leave a lasting legacy, places where architecture, hospitality, culture, and human experience come together in a meaningful way.
We recognized an opportunity to introduce a distinctly Saudi interpretation of luxury, one rooted in authenticity, generosity, craftsmanship, and a deep sense of place. Rather than replicating international models, OUD was founded to create destinations that reflect the richness of our heritage while embracing the aspirations of a modern global audience.
Ultimately, our vision has always been to create places people remember long after they leave.
The One Percent:
How important has cultural identity become within contemporary hospitality and lifestyle experiences?
Mohammed AlDuraibi:
Cultural identity has become one of the most valuable assets a brand can possess.
Guests today are seeking genuine experiences that reflect the character of a destination. They want to connect with local stories, traditions, architecture, cuisine, and hospitality rather than encounter environments that feel interchangeable from one city to another.
In Saudi Arabia, we are fortunate to possess extraordinary cultural richness. Hospitality should serve as a bridge between heritage and contemporary living. When culture is integrated authentically, it creates experiences that are both distinctive and emotionally resonant.
The One Percent:
Saudi Arabia is currently experiencing a major transformation across tourism, hospitality, and luxury experiences. How do you see this evolution impacting the next generation of luxury brands?
Mohammed AlDuraibi:
The transformation taking place in Saudi Arabia is creating one of the most exciting opportunities in the global hospitality sector.
As the Kingdom attracts international visitors and investment, luxury brands will need to evolve beyond conventional offerings. The next generation of brands will succeed by creating deeper narratives, stronger emotional connections, and more authentic experiences.
I believe Saudi Arabia will not simply adopt global luxury standards—it will contribute new perspectives that redefine them.
The One Percent:
What differentiates today’s affluent clientele from previous generations when it comes to hospitality and experiential expectations?
Mohammed AlDuraibi:
Today’s affluent guests are significantly more informed, connected, and discerning.
They value authenticity over status, experiences over possessions, and personalization over standardization. They expect every detail to feel intentional and tailored to their individual preferences.
This evolving mindset has been a key inspiration behind Oud Reserve. We recognized early that the future of luxury would not be defined by physical assets alone, but by the quality of experiences and emotions they create.
Most importantly, guests seek meaningful moments. Whether they are traveling for business, leisure, or wellness, they want experiences that enrich their lives and create lasting memories.
The One Percent:
In your view, what role do emotion, atmosphere, and storytelling now play within luxury hospitality concepts?
Mohammed AlDuraibi:
Luxury is becoming increasingly difficult to differentiate through physical products alone.
Exceptional architecture, beautiful interiors, and premium service have become expected rather than exceptional. What increasingly distinguishes one destination from another is the clarity of its identity and the strength of its narrative.
Emotion, atmosphere, and storytelling are therefore not decorative elements; they are strategic tools that shape perception, create cultural relevance, and influence long-term value.
The brands that will lead the future are those that know exactly who they are, what they stand for, and how to communicate that consistently through every aspect of the guest journey.
The One Percent:
Finally, what does modern luxury personally mean to you today?
Mohammed AlDuraibi:
To me, modern luxury is not defined by abundance; it is defined by intention.
It is the ability to choose quality over excess, substance over display, and meaning over distraction.
In a world that is increasingly fast-paced and connected, luxury is becoming less about what we acquire and more about what we protect: our time, our attention, our wellbeing, and the people we choose to share our lives with.
Ultimately, I believe the highest form of luxury is having the freedom to live deliberately and to spend your time in places that inspire, enrich, and elevate everyday life.
